How to Report an Unlicensed Contractor in New Jersey
- Visit the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs complaint page:
https://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/Pages/Consumer-Complaints.aspx
- Click the red “File a Complaint” button in the upper right hand corner.
- Select “Against a Licensed Professional.”
- Choose the State Board of Examiners of Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors.
- Select your preferred language (e.g., English) and click Next.
- Enter your contact information.
- You may choose to submit the complaint anonymously if preferred.
- Click Next.
- Provide as much information as possible about the contractor in the Q&A section.
- Include name, business name, contact details, and any known information.
- Click Next.
- Add a brief description of the situation, including why you believe the contractor is unlicensed.
- Upload any supporting documentation (optional), such as contracts, invoices, or photos.
- Accepted formats include PDF.
- Click Next.
- Review your information and click Submit to complete the complaint.
Once submitted, the complaint will be reviewed by the appropriate state board.
